Mr. Mir Waheed Akhaq hails from Gilgit and was born on July 23, 1985. He is currently pursuing a BA (Hons) in Political Science from Government College University (GCU), Lahore. A keen debater since school, Mr. Akhaq is currently member of the debating society at his university. In 2008, he attended a seven-day workshop on American history, organised by the US Consulate in Lahore. In January 2010, he will be representing his university at the Hans Seidal Foundation organised Second SAARC Simulation in Karachi, where he will be acting as the Information Minister of Bangladesh. Mr. Akhaq is interested in giving his region a political voice and in relieving the deprivation afflicting Gilgit.

Politically, Mir Waheed Akhlaq was affiliated with Blue Party and during this term, he served as a Member of the Youth Parliament Standing Committee on Information
