Third Session of the Youth Parliament: ‘The Water Crisis’ and ‘Inflation, Poverty and Unemployment’ will be the key issues under discussion.

Islamabad, March 30, 2010: The Third Session of the Youth Parliament Pakistan will start from March 31, 2010. The Session that will continue for 5 days till April 04, 2010 will discuss issues including The Water Crisis and Inflation, Poverty and Unemployment

The Guest Speaker on the Water Crisis on Thursday, April 01, 2010 will be Mr. Shams ul Mulk, Former Chairman WAPDA and Former Caretaker Chief Minister NWFP. Dr. Ashfaque H. Khan, Dean NUST Business School and Former Special Secretary Finance will share his perspectives on Inflation, Poverty and Unemployment on Friday, April 02, 2010.

Apart from the plenary sessions, Youth Parliament will hold regular Standing Committee meetings, party meetings and business advisory committee meetings over a period of 5 days.

The Youth Parliament Pakistan (YPP) is a platform of Pakistani Youth patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan with 48 members from all over the country. Conceived, created and facilitated by PILDAT, the Youth Parliament Pakistan also has an independent Steering Committee while Honourable Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi, MNA; Deputy Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan serves as the Patron of Youth Parliament Pakistan. Senator S. M. Zafar; Mr. Wazir Ahmed Jogezai, Former Deputy Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan; Dr. Donya Aziz, MNA, Engr. Khuram Dastgir Khan, MNA; Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, MNA and Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, Executive Director PILDAT serve as members of the Youth Parliament Steering Committee.

The Youth Parliament Pakistan, a PILDAT project that is successfully running for third consecutive year, is aimed at inculcating in youth of Pakistan values and spirit for democracy, the importance of dialogue, tolerance for others views, an understanding of the concept of Parliament and its role in democratic decision-making and oversight. The Youth Parliament Pakistan draws its membership from young Pakistanis aged between 18-29 years on the basis of population through an open merit-based selection process from across Pakistan.
