Islamabad, July 28,
2010: The Fifth and Final Session of the 3rd batch
of Youth Parliament Pakistan will begin today here in
Islamabad. The session, which will span over 5 days, will
cover key topics of State of Education System and
Foreign Policy of Pakistan.
A representative from
the British government will address Youth Parliament on
the topic of UK’s Foreign Policy towards Pakistan on
Thursday, July 29, 2010 while Mr. Khurshid Mehmud
Kasuri, Former Foreign Minister of Pakistan will address
the Youth Parliament on Friday, July 30, 2010 on the
topic of Foreign Policy of Pakistan. Mr. Ahsan Iqbal,
MNA, Former Federal Minister for Education will address the
Youth Parliament Pakistan on Saturday, July 31, 2010 on
the topic of State of the Education System in Pakistan.
The Session also
includes a Reception by the British High Commissioner for the
Members and Alumni of the Youth Parliament Pakistan. There
will be a Farewell Dinner and Certificate Distribution
Ceremony for Youth Parliament on Saturday, July 31, 2010 where
keynote speech will be delivered by Engr. Khurram Dastgir
Khan, MNA, Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee
on Commerce and Member Youth Parliament Steering Committee.
Apart from the plenary
sessions, Youth Parliament Pakistan will hold regular Standing
Committee meetings, party meetings and business advisory
committee meetings over a period of 5 days.
The Youth Parliament Pakistan (YPP) is a platform of Pakistani
Youth patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan with
48 members from all over the country. Conceived, created and
facilitated by PILDAT, the Youth Parliament Pakistan also has
an independent Steering Committee while Honourable Mr.
Faisal Karim Kundi, MNA; Deputy Speaker National Assembly
of Pakistan serves as the Patron of Youth Parliament Pakistan.
Senator S. M. Zafar; Mr. Wazir Ahmed Jogezai,
Former Deputy Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan; Dr.
Donya Aziz, MNA, Engr. Khuram Dastgir Khan, MNA;
Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, MNA and Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob,
Executive Director PILDAT serve as members of the Youth
Parliament Steering Committee. Dr. Donya Aziz, MNA, Engr.
Khuram Dastgir Khan, MNA and Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, MNA also
serve as advisors to the Blue and Green parties of the Youth
Parliament.
The Youth Parliament Pakistan is successfully running for
third consecutive year. Its objectives include inculcating in
youth of Pakistan values and spirit for democracy, the
importance of dialogue, tolerance for others’ views, an
understanding of the concept of Parliament and its role in
democratic decision-making and oversight. The Youth Parliament
Pakistan draws its membership from young Pakistanis aged
between 18-29 years on the basis of population through an open
merit-based selection process from across Pakistan. |
