A Workshop for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary Staff on the topic of �Centre and Provinces Relationship� was held by PILDAT on August 23, 2004 at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad. The Speakers at the Session included Mr. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman Shami - Editor-in-Chief, Daily Pakistan; Dr. Salman Shah, Former Minister of State and Former Chairman Privatisation Commission; Dr. Jaffar Ahmed, Director Pakistan Study Centre, University of Karachi, Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA and Senator Sana Ullah Baloch.

 
 

The Workshop was attended by 10 Senators and 24 Members of the National Assembly. A series of four discussion papers on the major issues of Centre-Provinces Relations were developed. These included papers on "National Finance Commission", "Royalty on Natural Gas", "Collection of Excise Duty by the Federation on Tobacco Produced in NWFP" and "Net Profit on Hydel Power Generation".

 
 

Views presented by speakers were follwed by an intense Question and Answer Session that provided a forum for debate and exchange of ideas between the speakers and the participating parliamentarians and parliamentary staff.
