Islamabad, January 12; Geo news channel is to telecast PILDAT�s lively dialogue on Terrorism and Pakistan: What Ought to Change? on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:05 PST. |

The dialogue that took place between the Western Panelists including Lord Ahmed of Rotherham, UK House of Lords (Labour); Dr. Ashraf Choudhary, QSO, MP, New Zealand Parliament and Dr. Farzana Shaikh, South Asia Expert, Chatham House, UK. The Pakistani panelists at the dialogue included Pakistan�s former Finance and Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Sartaj Aziz and Dr. Hasan Askari Rizvi, Defence & Political Analyst. The dialogue moderated by PILDAT�s Executive Director Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, has been part of the PILDAT Dialogue Series on Understanding Relations between the Muslims & the Western World: With Special Focus on Pakistan.

The dialogue sitting especially addresses questions such as what does the Western world, led by the US, want Pakistan to do when it asks Pakistan to �do more� on countering terrorism? What are Pakistan�s own security concerns? Are Pakistan�s security concerns and its participation in the so-called �war against terrorism� in harmony to each other? Does Pakistan have the capacity to contain forces considered to be engaging in terrorism? Can, in fact, the US and the Western World, contain these forces with the current approach? Do the militants in Pakistan engage in violence on their own or are the governments or at least some elements within those are involved in such activities? |
