A delegation of five young parliamentarians from Pakistan was invited to Germany by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung to study the committee system of the German Parliament. The delegation was accompanied by PILDAT Executive Director, Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob. The delegates represented all major political parties of Pakistan. They included: Mr. Sana ullah Baloch, Senator, from the Balochistan National Party (elected head of the delegation); Dr. (Ms.) Firdous Ashiq Awan, MNA, from the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) (elected deputy head of the delegation); Dr. Atta ur Rehman, MNA, from the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal; Ms. Rubina S. Qaimkhani, MNA, from the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians; and Mr. Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi, MNA from the Muttahida Quami Movement.

 
 

The delegation visited Bonn, Berlin and Frankfurt, including a visit to the Brandenburg Landstag (State Assembly of Brandenberg). During their visit to Berlin, they met with Ms. Marei John, from the Division for International Cooperation Department for Development Policy (Asiapacific region). They also met with Dr. Ernst-J. Kerbusch, Director of the Division for International Cooperation at Bonn. The delegation met with the research wing of the German Parliament, and visited their library and archives. The delegates met and exchanged ideas with the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Parliament. Ms. Sabine Batzing from the Young Parliamentarians Group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany also met the Pakistani parliamentarians and discussed the system of the German Parliament. Ms. Petra Ernstberger, Member of Deutscher Bundestag and Mr. Pflug, Member of Foreign Relations Committee of the German Parliament also met the delegation.

 
 

The Pakistani Ambassador to Germany, Mr. Asif Ezdi, hosted a dinner for the delegation at his residence.

 
 

The visit was supported by the FES (Friedrich Ebert Stiftung) in conjunction with the Social Democratic Party, the ruling party in Germany.
